Destination Drama
We've got drama at DPAC....and it's the BEST kind!
On Thursday, January 5th, Lisa Smith started directing and instructing a drama program at DPAC called Destination Drama! This program has been in the works for a while and we are SO excited to see this need met in our community for a drama/theatre training program! Lisa has developed a program specifically for theatre, acting, stage presence and much more. This program will help your student in many different ways including theatre auditions, ACTS preparation, self-confidence, public speaking, and many other things. We know that Destination Drama will help achieve DPAC's mission to "foster and enhance a student's level of confidence and potential!"
Lisa Smith has lived in Greenwood most of her life. She was in her first play at the age of 6 when the Greenwood Little Theatre (as it was then called) was on Kirksey Drive. Her love of theatre continued to develop throughout her teenage years. After graduating from Greenwood High School, Lisa pursued the “theatre bug” to the University of Georgia where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Drama/Theatre. Additionally, she obtained a Masters in Secondary English Education from UGA. For 15 years, she developed the drama program at her alma mater, GHS. Two years were spent teaching drama at Mauldin High School. A mid-career change shifted her focus for 9 years to elementary gifted education where she taught at both Pinecrest and Hodges Elementary. When the ACTS Magnet Program at Brewer Middle School began, she returned to her drama roots for the last 7 years of her teaching career. After a total of 33 years in education, she and her husband, Jeff, moved briefly to Pawley’s Island.
Currently, she is the Children’s Coordinator for Main Street United Methodist Church where she has been a lifelong member. Lisa is very involved with her church choir, loves to act in GCT productions, and serves on the board for the Greenwood Community Theatre. Lisa and Jeff have two adult children, Mary Lyle Smith and Granger Smith, as well as their daughter-in-law, Stephanie, grandson, Campbell, and new granddaughter, Finnely Elizabeth. Lisa is excited to be back in Greenwood and can’t wait to share her love for theatre with your children at Destination Performing Arts Center.
We are blessed beyond measure to have such a talented and experienced instructor who shares our same core values and mission. We are SO excited to welcome Lisa to our DPAC family and look forward to see the potential and talent shine in all of her students! You'll definitely want to take advantage of this opportunity to be a part of this awesome program.
